Fine Art Prints Finally

Charity
Windows of Truth
Little Lamb

Four prints are now available locally including these three (so far) also on etsy -- fine art reproductions on 100% rag paper (giclee prints). I'm having trouble getting an image up of the fourth one, it will come eventually, I hope! It's been a learning experience working this out, just a few to start and see if the market is there. And I have a few other things that I will be able to get prints made of "on demand". Hopefully some of those who say they love my work but don't have the money for originals will enjoy the prints.
I'm especially pleased with the "Windows of Truth" reproductions, they really look just like the original.
Even though this process costs more than when getting large numbers printed, I won't have to join those with several hundred prints gathering dust under the bed.

Classes in papercasting and silk fiber fusion at the Art Bazaar are beginning to fill up - after the Gallery Crawl this Friday we might have to add another casting workshop :).Looks like online classes will be next, through Fiber Arts Mixed Media group. These will be done through a forum with lessons posted and participants able to send photos for comment, ask questions, etc.

Resurrecting some more

Another piece from long ago! I found this one, started many years back after a week at Camp Cheerio with Peter Thornton . We did a lot of things with little squares, from putting a letter in each square to using them as backgrounds. So I had done the background and then had written the smaller writing on it, got lost in it all and set it aside for at least 18 years. I pulled it out and sat imagining various ways to put the poem on it larger and readable but somehow fitting into the background. This is what I ended up with and I like it fairly well. It is on display at the Capital Arts "Adult Art Show" - that means the local art club, not "adult" like in the entertainment industry :)
I also finished a commission but I'm not sure I can post it yet since it may not have been presented to the person receiving it as a gift -- but here's the background - its a long story that the customer wants on the wall, so I decided to make it look like a storybook

A Sense of Accomplishment!
It feels really good to have everything on display at the Art Bazaar plus two "new" pieces at CapArts and that commission done. Finally the "to finish someday" pile is much smaller (though not gone - but I had so much fun finishing old things, I think it will be easier to do so in the future).
I am ready to get back to work on tutorials (which should work well as I am prepping for a mini-workshop on casting which should make it easy to get the few photos I'm missing to complete the casting lessons), as well as start another commission and begin my trials of writing with oils....plus making silk/cotton combo names for etsy (stay tuned for samples)................and if the family is lucky, I might clean the house again one of these days. Maybe.

Sneak Peak

Everything's up at the Art Bazaar for tomorrow's reception, its looking good. My giclee prints managed to arrive today so they will find a place by tomorrow afternoon.
I've got a couple of workshops scheduled to see if anyone is interested in classes at the Art Bazaar's really nice upstairs classroom - people keep asking about how I make the silk projects and castings so there's a class in each. For those of you not in Missouri, I'll be able to get back to writing the tutorials now that the exhibit is together.

Ancient Art Revisited

For years I've been missing the deadline for the local Artist Club's "Adult Artist Exhibit", so when my friend reminded me AND they extended the deadline, I wanted to try to put something in  -- but of course everything just went to the Art Bazaar......
Time for some more digging - And I found a piece I worked on quite a bit many years ago, in fact I think we might not even have moved to North Carolina yet - which makes it over 20 years (!). I wrote with resist (masking fluid) and because of the colored paper the writing didn't show up well enough so I had tried various things like touching it up with colored pencil . Then when that didn't work and I tried using paint over the letters, because of the pencil it was repelled and made a mess, so I gave it up and put it away.
very old, early effort

Well, many years later I feel much more confident in writing on difficult surfaces. And I figured using a wider pen would let me do a little fixing of those early letters. Unfortunately, it didn't let me change poor spacing, but I still had a great time redoing it and think it's not too bad -
redone as-good-as-it-will-get version
At any rate, I had a fun time coming up with a completed piece in just a couple of hours (plus or minus a couple of decades).

Sneak Preview

The other day a huge package arrived -- a loaner from the owner of the canvas that I had in the church art competition several years ago ready to display this month at the Art Bazaar - and it's now photographed and giclee prints are being made - come and see!

Here are a couple of other things I finished - a combination of cotton (cast paper) and silk ("fusion") fiber tiles using my new method of temporary molds to cast words, as well as a large canvas that was started who knows how long ago that I have really enjoyed finishing up. Though as I took it downtown this morning I realized that I had never gone back in and put the attribution for some of the scriptures and quotes - ooops. Maybe it's not quite finished. I've always imagined it in a "floater frame" but since it only just got done and they are much more expensive than I expected, it is currently a "gallery wrap" canvas.
There will be some extra art pieces on display just for the reception on April 12th (4-6 pm). It's a relief good to have everything done -- well, everything that's going to get done for this exhibit, still had one more broadside that I had hopes for, but it will get done soon now that it's back in the "active" pile. Thanks to son Evan for helping get those frames all ready for hanging - not my favorite part of the job.

There are also some new silk mosaics on black, a couple of new calligraphic broadsides, and other misc. including silk pins and hand-screened calligraphic cards. Plus you get to see all the other local artists' stuff that fills the Art Bazaar co-op! It's a free cultural evening out, complete with goodies :)
